Summary

This is the 11th annual report on surveillance of sexually transmissible diseases (STDs) in Victoria and incorporates data from statutory notifications to the Victorian Department of Health (formerly Department of Human Services) for 1997 and, where available, comparative data from earlier years. The report also contains information derived from supplementary surveillance and related research activities which would not be possible without the assistance and co-operation of, among others, the doctors, clinics and laboratories who see patients at risk for sexually transmissible diseases in Victoria.
