Summary

DRAFT - This document, Specialist outpatient clinics in Victorian public hospitals: access policy replaces the 2009 Victorian public hospital specialist clinics: access guidelines. The policy outlines the Government’s expectations of service delivery, including indicative timeframes for the completion of key processes relating to specialist clinics. Over time, key performance indicators and targets may be established in relation to these timeframes. As well as outlining specific policies, the document contains separate information about implementing the policies, under the ‘implementation guidelines’ headings: these are suggestions rather than mandatory requirements. The policy is targeted to Victorian public health services, particularly the managers and clinical staff of specialist clinics. It will also be made available to general practitioners, through General Practice Victoria. The policy will be reviewed when the work of the Minister’s Expert Panel on waiting list management is complete, and amended as required. The Department of Health’s Specialist Clinics Program will finalise the policy in collaboration with the Specialist Clinics Advisory Committee and the Specialist Clinics Nurse Unit Managers Benchmarking Group.
