Evaluation of the Psychosocial Response to the Victorian Bushfires Final Report - December 2010 (PDF, 1.41mb)
Summary
The numerous fires that swept across many parts of Victoria in early 2009 have left a lasting impression on the thousands directly impacted and those who assisted in the aftermath. The spread of the bushfires and the scale of the devastation had an enormous impact on individuals, families and communities with the deaths of 173 people, the destruction of over 2000 houses and the displacement of thousands of people. There were also major consequences for local businesses, community infrastructure and the natural environment. This report brings together a wealth of information regarding the range of services implemented in response to the psychosocial support needs of people affected by the fires, the coordination and planning processes used to implement a consistent approach, and the capacity building initiatives aimed at ensuring the workforce was skilled and well supported.
